On these pages you will find photo's and text about places I and my family have visited over the last 20 plus years in Scotland. Most of that time has been spent in the beautiful Glen of Strathconon.
We have also spent plenty of time in other places. Rahoy, Argyle, The Far North and the borders are some of them.
Strathconon is northwest of Inverness, there are two entrances into the glen by road. From the A832 at the village of Marybank or from the A832 just a mile or so west of Contin. Both roads are single track and meet at the Meig dam, the dam is part of the Hydro Electic Power system built in the 1930's. The road from Contin takes you over the dam itself, where it joins the road from Marybank which runs for about nineteen miles into the hills and finishes at the western end of Loch Beanacharin on the Scadroy Estate.
The pics range from 1984 and our first holiday in Scotland when we stayed at Bemuchlye a farm at Gollanfield near Ardersier. To the log cabins and then 'Caberfeidgh' the beautiful cottage in Strathconon, to the bed & breakfast places we go to now the kids no longer come wth us and we move around more.
Weve been up hill and down dale. Done boat trips, motorcycle trips, horse rides and bike rides. Visited forts, caves, castles and tombs, battlefields and theme parks. So hopefully you will find this site interesting. Enjoy
The Airnlea is a modern house overlooking and just a few minutes walk from the centre of Jedburgh, run by Amanda & Chris Scott everyone is given a warm welcome. The house is immaculate and if the weather is nice you can sit on the terrace and watch the world go by. Amanda & Chris are both bikers so if your thinking of biking in the borders and Northumberland which I recommend, its a great place to stay with secure parking and a place to dry your gear if the weather turns bad.
The Catlina is on the end of a thin strip of tarmac a couple of miles off the A836 at Strathy. It feels however as though you are in the middle of nowhere, a short distance away from Strathy Point and the Atlantic coast. Its a place for one or two people at the most, you not only have your own bedroom but also lounge, dining room and bathroom as well. Jane & Pete are really friendly and make you feel at home from the moment you arrive, they have done everything from canoeing down rivers in South America to climbing mountains and Lands End to John 'o Groats on numerous occasions. Not only can you have B&B at the Catalina but Jane also does an evening meal if required, but unfortunately if you smoke or want to take your dog you wont be able to.
The Duncraigaig is on the main A816 a mile or so south of the village of Kilmartin. In the field opposite are the Ballymeanoch standing stones, and each evening a Pine Martin turns up to eat from the bird table. Lynn & Cameron are really friendly and make you more than welcome. Bikers are welcome with hard standing in the garage and a place to dry wet gear if needed. There is an evening meal available on certain nights and a special at breakfast if you want a change. The area around the Duncraigaig is full of history and not to far away is the Crinan Canal and The Mull of Kintyre.
